GMC publish revised Good Medical Practice

Home > Investigations > GMC publish revised Good Medical Practice

We posted in August 2022 about the closing of the consultation and anticipated publication of the revised Good Medical Practice from the General Medical Council (GMC). The GMC has now published its new guidance which will take effect from 30 January 2024 and sets out the standards all doctors in the UK are expected to adhere to. Many hope that, amongst other things, the new guidance will help provide more robust standards to challenge sexual misconduct and harassment and bullying in the workplace.

The guidance has been structured under 4 key domains:

Domain 1: Knowledge, skills and development

Domain 2: Patients, partnership and communication

Domain 3: Colleagues, culture and safety

Domain 4: Trust and professionalism

It has been updated to provide more detailed guidance in five key areas:

  • a respectful, fair and compassionate workplace for colleagues and patients
  • promote patient centred care
  • tackling discrimination
  • champion fair and inclusive leadership
  • support continuity of care and safe delegation

The full guidance, effective from 30th January 2024, can be found here.
